The Yeovil Town Road Running Club has recently celebrated the success of running races that they organised in 2007, as they presented cheques to both the Yeovil branch of the British Red Cross and to St Margaret’s Hospice.
The Ninesprings 9km and its supporting fun runs was organised in June with the assistance of Katy Menday at South Somerset District Council, and was a great success. Sponsorship of the race was provided by the local Shead family of Yeovil, whose family members have been supported by the Hospice in the past, and the Club were pleased to be able to present a cheque for £700 to St Margaret’s Hospice.
The Ninesprings 9km race will be taking place again this year, on Sunday 8th June. The race takes runners on a two lap course around Yeovil Country Park and Aldon Park, with a 1-lap, 4.5km fun run and a 1 mile race for children. The fun starts at 11am, with entries taken on the day, and details can be found at the Club’s website www.yeoviltownrrc.com . All proceeds of the races will once again be donated to St Margaret’s Hospice.
At the same time, a cheque was presented to Ruth Preston and her colleagues from the British Red Cross from the proceeds of Yeovil Town Road Running Club’s successful Summer 5km Series. Over the course of last summer, the 6 races of the Series attracted some of the top runners from across the South West and beyond to the Yeovilton course, with an average of 140 runners attending each event. Members of the British Red Cross attended each of the races to ensure the safety of the racers, and the Yeovil Town Road Running Club were pleased to make a donation of £500.
The 2008 Summer 5km Series is already under way and is open to runners of all abilities. The next race takes place at RNAS Yeovilton on Wednesday 14th May at 7.15pm, with entries taken on the evening of the race only. Details can again be found at www.yeoviltownrrc.com
